'Cambrian Love Explosion'Acrylic on 1.4m sq Canvas. I've been wanting to work on a larger piece for a while, using the forms that came about through doodling. It was a real process of discovery, finding the shapes and colours, and learning how to apply the paint leaving clean edges.

Acrylic and marker on A3 Paper. I started doodling a lot in recent months and seeing what emerges, exploring different shapes, and seeing what finished designs can come from it. This is one such design.

Acrylic on Paper, from doodles. Seeing if I can translate line doodles into colour patterns.

I have notebooks filled with doodles. It started as a kind of self therapy / warm up for drawing, and it's been really cool to see some interesting shapes and designs emerge.

Portrait Progression. I love drawing faces, and used to be quite intimidated drawing a portrait without any grid or measuring. It feels a bit impossible in the beginning, and always surprises me as it comes together.  Charcoal & chalk pencil on A2 paper.

Compressed Charcoal on paper.

One of my favorite things to do, drawing from life with compressed charcoal. I like how immediate charcoal is, can alternate between broad and thin strokes.

Playing with ink on paper feels like such a luxury. I love putting the ink to wet paper and seeing what shapes appear. Here I had fun seeing how the line can react to the random shapes, and make some sense from it.

Donkeys in Yanqing. Ink Wash on paper. Like sketching with compressed charcoal I love the economy and speed of painting with ink. Always get surprising interesting shapes.

Pen on paper.

Since I was young, I was always fascinated by old pen drawings and etchings. Berni Wrightson's illustrations for Frankenstein were a huge influence. These are drawings from my time in Yanqing.
